At the age of 10, Gavin's mum had him in the queue to try flute lessons at Tameside Music Service. At the back of the hall, someone popped their head in and shouted 'there's space in the trombone class if anyone's interested'. The rest, they say, is history.
After a few years on tenor, he saw the ways of the dark side and moved onto the beast that is bass trombone. He's played alongside some of the country's top players, for various big bands, scratch bands and brass bands.
Outside of music, he supports his beloved MCFC, he occasionally likes to try and kill himself on a mountain bike and drinks ale (A LOT).
